Exam Services offers comprehensive support for courses requiring proctored examinations. A proctored exam is conducted under supervision in a secure environment. These exams can be administered on paper, through the Quizzes page on ICON, or via other web platforms. With our assistance, proctored exams can be overseen by live proctors at a test center or, in certain cases, by a virtual proctor.
Eligibility for exam support is determined by the course delivery mode in MAUI. Please select from the links below to explore the advantages of basic and full exam support. While we do not provide support for non-proctored exams, resources are available at the bottom of the page.
Basic exam support
Eligibility: Regardless of the MAUI delivery mode, any University of Iowa course is eligible for this service.
Typical Use: Basic exam support is commonly used for students requiring accommodations or for those taking make-up exams.
Full exam support
Eligibility: Available exclusively for courses with an online or hybrid delivery mode in MAUI.
Typical Use: This service is utilized by instructors who require proctored exams for all students. Support encompasses the entire process, from exam creation to delivery and review.

Support for proctored exams
Non-proctored exams are completed without the supervision of a person or a virtual proctor. Students are generally not restricted from accessing materials during the exam. Consequently, this type of exam emphasizes the student's responsibility to uphold academic integrity. Resources for achieving integrity in non-proctored exams can be found through the link below.
If your exam will be non-proctored, you will not be eligible for support from Exam Services and do not need to submit a proctored exam request to PEP. For assistance with non-proctored exams in an online or hybrid course, contact Distance and Online Education's Course Administration Team. For assistance with non-proctored exams in an in-person course, contact OTLT's SITA team.
