exam accommodations for students
Most Student Disability Services (SDS) exam accommodations can be fulfilled at any of the Campus Test Centers. Given the limited number of seats, it's crucial to schedule your exams as early in the semester as possible.
Apply for exam accommodations
To get started with exam accommodations, you must first apply for accommodations with the Student Disability Services (SDS) office.
Letter of Accommodation
Select the exam accommodations you would like to use for each course. Then, produce a Letter of Accommodation (LOA) and present it to your instructor.
Understand your Letter of Accommodation
All exam accommodations listed on the student Letter of Accommodation (LOA) without an asterisk (*) can be provided at the North Campus Test Center, the Overflow Test Center, or by other arrangements with your instructor(s).
Exam accommodations listed on the student Letter of Accommodation (LOA) with an asterisk (*) can be fulfilled at the SDS Test Center or by other arrangements with your instructor(s). If you have exam accommodations denoted by an asterisk on your LOA, we encourage you to discuss options with your instructor(s), Exam Services, or Student Disability Services (SDS) before scheduling your exam.
How to verify exam accommodations
The SDS accommodations you select for each course on the Course Accommodations page in MyUI will determine your exam duration and the location(s) you are offered when scheduling exams in the Proctored Exams Portal in ICON.
- If you are approved for/elect to use extended time, you will see the extra time displayed in minutes in the “Extra Time” column.
- If you are approved for/elect to use a reduced distraction test environment, you will be offered reduced distraction locations when scheduling.
- If you are approved for/elect to use any accommodations with asterisks (*), you will be offered space at the SDS Test Center when scheduling.
Extended time and online exams
Extended time will not display for an online exam in ICON Quizzes until you press the button to start the exam. Once you start the exam, the timer in ICON will display the original exam duration + any extended time granted.
Reduced distraction environment
All seats at the Campus Test Centers are considered reduced distraction by Student Disability Services.
Honorlock exams can be completed from a private, quiet location; therefore, the virtual proctoring platform is also considered reduced distraction by Student Disability Services.
