Fulfilling Exam Accommodations
Instructors/Departments may administer exams to students with accommodations or arrange to have accommodated exams proctored at a Campus Test Center.
Use the Proctored Exams Portal (PEP) to submit a proctored exam request to have your student(s) complete exams at a Campus Test Center.
The PEP is the system we use to manage exam support. Instructors use the PEP to request assistance, students view exam details and schedule exams in the portal, and Exam Services staff use the tool to securely communicate exam guidelines and files with instructors.
There is no need to use the Proctored Exams Portal if you/your department proctor exams with accommodations and/or makeup exams.
You only need to use the portal if you need help from Exam Services or a Campus Test Center. If you/your department will proctor exams, simply communicate the accommodated exam time, location and details directly with your student(s).
Test location determined by exam accommodation(s)
The SDS accommodations a student elects to use in a course, if any, determines the location(s) the student is offered when scheduling exams in the Proctored Exams Portal.
- All exam accommodations listed on the student Letter of Accommodation (LOA) without an asterisk (*) can be provided at the North Campus Test Center, the Overflow Test Center, or by other arrangements made between you and your student.
- Exam accommodations listed on the student Letter of Accommodation (LOA) with an asterisk (*) can be fulfilled at the SDS Test Center or by other arrangements made between you and your student.

Frequently asked questions about accommodations
Extended time accommodations automatically applied in ICON Classic quizzes
You no longer need to manually adjust the time allowed for students who elect to use SDS extended time accommodations if you use ICON Classic Quizzes in your course.
A daily process will run at 2:00 AM CST to adjust time allowed on ICON (Classic) Quizzes for students who have enabled extended time accommodations for your course.
If your student(s) enables an extended time accommodation for your course without sufficient time for the daily process to adjust time allowed on an upcoming timed quiz, you will need to manually adjust the time for that specific quiz. (Any remaining timed quizzes in the course will be adjusted when the process runs.)
Use the Moderate Quiz tool on your ICON quiz page to view accommodations or make manual adjustments to timed quizzes in your course.
Quiz availability dates still apply when moderating a quiz. If the Until date passes when students are taking the quiz with extended time, the quiz auto-submits even if the student's time extension has not expired.
Accommodations with Honorlock
Honorlock provides on-demand virtual proctoring for online exams only. Students in Online or Hybrid courses who have reduced distraction and/or extended time exam accommodations may choose to use Honorlock instead of a Campus Test Center, as the platform allows students to select the testing environment. Additionally, Honorlock is compatible with adaptive equipment.
Reminder: Honorlock is only available for Online and Hybrid courses, which are eligible for full exam support.
Accommodations with Respondus Lockdown Browser
Respondus Lockdown Browser allows students to enter a locked browser prior to taking their exam. Once inside the locked browser, the student cannot leave the locked browser without also leaving the exam. Students in UI courses who have reduced distraction and/or extended time exam accommodations are able to use Respondus Lockdown Browser at a Campus Test Center. Additionally, Respondus Lockdown Browser is compatible with adaptive equipment for example Read & Write.
